H1 2019 Recap: BNB Rises a Staggering 430 Percent; XRP the ...

If you think about trading crypto with high leverage (anything more then 10x) read this. [skip this if you are a holder

At this point BTC and many coins are already up by a lot since the dump in March. Even if the ”alt season has started” remember there will be corrections and wicks that can liquidate you if you don't set a SL.
Don't think you can predict the future. Anything can happen. Imagine Binance crashes or it is closed for evasion. Imagine CZ (Binance CEO) losses the keys. Imagine Binance being hacked. Imagine Coinbase being hacked. Quantum Computers will become a thing sooner or later and they can mess things up when you don't expect it. Imagine Someone "hacks" Trumps twitter (this will be not so relevant soon as he will lose the elections) and posts a deep fake video with him stating he will close all crypto exchanges in US.If you trade with leverage, or you simply hold your coins on an exchange you will be affected by this.
So, look at trading as a gamble and don't trade more then you can afford to lose. In fact, set up a plan and stick to it. Set up a trading / gambling budget and use for every trade only 5% of that budget. If you are indeed good, that budget will be big soon and it does not matter if bitcoin will fall you can make money out of that also.
You will be tempted to invest all the profits in future trades. Just don't do it. If you were really successful you could update your plan and set up a new budget for trading and decrease the percentage for each trade. One of the most successful traders from twitter, Scott Melker, uses only 1% of his trading budget for each trade. And he is good, and has a lot of experience.
Why I say it is dangerous to use more then 10x and you should be very disciplined? Imagine ETH reaches 505 now then drops sharply to 430. If you have opened a log with 10x leverage at 490 (the 1st of September high) thinking ETH flipped resistance, a drop to 430 will liquidate you if you FOMO all in without a Stop Loss - or maybe you simply didn't get to set a stop loss because it crashed right after you opened the position. You can't be that unlucky? Believe me, you can.
Also, always, zoom out. Don't trade on a 1 minute timeframe.
Disclaimer: I am not a professional trader, I am just a normal guy who likes to find patterns in everything and has a gambling problem. I just want to help you avoid the mistakes I made.

AND the best tip for the end of this post: If you want to sleep well, set your SL in profit before going to bed.
Edit: Remember, discipline is the key. You want to trade and be respected and not seen as a gambler? Be very disciplined, use a good Bankroll Management, don't fomo and take profits.

Weekly update. 431 BTC were traded using LocalBitcoin last week, trading Bs. /BTC and BTC/Bs. (Bolivares, Venezuelan "official" currency, ISO VES). These 431 BTC were 1,825,000,000,000 Bs. One BTC is around 4,800,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is less 2 USD. PhD uni professor earns 4 USD monthly.

Hi, hope you are doing ok. I'm "ok" considering the situation, but it is ok. 8h daily blackouts are common.
And remember, two years ago 5 zeroes were deleted from the currency. So the price of the BTC would be 480,000,000,000,000 "old" Bs.
September will close with around USD 20,000,000 traded with LocalBitcoin
The trade is only measured ONLY using LocalBitcoin, there are other exchanges like AIRTM (this one banned by the Goverment), Uphold, Binance and so on, but no open data as far as I know. Most of the Localbitcoin trades are in Bolivares (BTC to BS and BS to BTC).
Here are more stats https://www.usefultulips.org/combined_VES_Page.html
Monthly minimum wage is 800,000 Bs. one USD is around 430,000 Bs. So that is where the 2 USD monthly comes. These 800,000 Bs. already include a cash food bonus.
https://www.caracaschronicles.com/
Some people insist that minimum monthly wage is not real, but it is. I have relatives that are public workers and earn that. Some with studies and time working could reach 20 minimum wages according to the tables, that would be anyway under 50 USD monthly.
Private companies, well a little more. A cashier in a supermarket could earn around 50 USD monthly.
The Venezuela College of Engineers, has a table for the recomended wages. The minimum wage they propose for a engineer without any experiencie is 90,000,000 Bs. / monthly, which is around 200 USD. And... good luck finding a place that pays that
http://www.civ.net.ve/uploaded_pictures/70_d.pdf
One professor with PhD, nationa science award and 21 years teaching earns less than 4 USD monthly. You can see the testimony here https://twitter.com/katika48/status/1304506604147159040?s=19 (I think you have the option to trasnlate the tweet)
The average income of Venezuelan is 0.72 USD daily (2020 numbers), so we are talking around 20 USD monthly, and that is an AVERAGE with all that means.

Weekly Update: ParJar Swap private beta, Fantom Opera Network Special-fee Contract, SelfKey + ThreeFold, Open Staking live on Harmony…– 15 May - 21 May'20
Hey Parachuters! Seems like ages since I last posted a weekly update, right? Unfortunately, got super busy with IRL work and couldn’t keep up. But fret not! I finally scraped some time out today to get upto speed with all the news from the Parachute universe in May and June and organised them into a series of weekly updates like the ones I used to write earlier. But instead of posting them one by one everyday, thought it might be best to release them all at one go. So here's Part I of VI - All that happened at Parachute + partners from 15 May - 21 May'20:

The ParJar swap feature beta testing started this week with a call to testers far and wide. Click here for the latest update and stats on ParJar straight from Cap's mouth - "...it took almost two years of betas and growth to reach 1 million tips (March 7th) nd it’s taken 2 months to to add another 400k..". Amazing! The #par4par raffle continues with a 500k $PAR pool. Peace Love hosted a general knowledge trivia in TTR this week for 10k $PAR in prizes. Gamerboy’s random trivia and Victor’s “Big Trivia” in Tiproom were quite fun as well. Naj (who’s also this week’s Parena winner) hosted a six set quiz in TTR. Charlotte’s been hosting quizzes in a new format for quite some time now. This week too she held one in Tiproom. Jason started a #culturalweekend prompt with an invitation to Parachuters to share "about a cultural dance or ceremony" from their area. "Explain in detail about the dance and why it is important" for some cool $PAR. Among many of the cool stories shared by Parachuters included Nico’s Occitan music from Italy and Soleira’s Dancing Devils of Tinaquillo. Congratulations to Clinton’s FLI charity for partnering with Lumenthropy which is Stellar's philanthropic arm. Remember, all profits from the Parachute Shop go to FLI. Another crypto league with a 150k $PAR prize pot started this week. Gian’s Two-For-Tuesday was a free for all. To revisit all the awesome music posted for 2FT, check out the playlist made by Sebastian.
Naj came back from near certain defeat in the finale to win this week’s Parena
aXpire CEO Matthew Markham penned an article on remote work and billing software for legal firms. An updated e-flyer for Bilr was released as well. To track the latest $AXPR burn, click here. 2gether added customer support capabilities to their Twitter, Facebook and Discord. Plus, an incident tracker status page was added this week. The XIO dApp which is still in private beta has already seen 500k+ $XIO tokens locked into it. Awesome! To get a feel of how the dApp works, check out Dash’s latest video demo where he also shared some updates on tokenomics. Uptrennd founder Jeff Kirdeikis interviewed Dash over an hour long session to talk all things XIO. $XIO got listed on Idex. Click here to watch an update video on the latest developments. For XIO discussions this week, Citizens brainstormed over the base liquidity pair on Uniswap V2. DeFi Nation’s Clayton Roche wrote a detailed commentary on what XIO is doing right. Birdchain’s mid-May update came out this week. Voyager hosted a business update conference call this week. CEO Steve Ehrlich talked about the platform and crypto in general with Charlie Shrem on the Untold Stories podcast this week. Voyager’s Q3 2020 results were released. Still figuring out how to fund your Voyager wallet? Watch this video to find out. An upgrade to Fantom’s Opera Network was pushed which allows staking different amounts over time. Switch’s $ESH token was listed on Stex, ProBit, Crex 24, Hotbit, Bilaxy and Bitcoin.com this week. Bitcoin.com also announced support for the $GHOST airdrop along with a deposit and trade competition. Continuing on its acquisition spree from last week, Switch acquired gaming platform Wavesbet and voting dApp ClearPoll. Whitepaper for the GHOST project by John McAfee was released. They will be airdropping their tokens 1:1 to $ESH HODLers on the 25th. The release of $GHOST has been contentious to say the least. In Shuffle Monster news, most of the $SHUF liquidity on Uniswap was moved to the V2 pool this week. New features were added to the Wibson app with the latest release giving more data control powers to the end user. Pre-staking started on the Harmony mainnet with the opening up of bids by validators followed by the election of the first batch of validators thereby marking the start of Open Staking. And just after, Harmony became the first ever blockchain to support sharded PoS. The news of Open Staking going live was covered by Coindesk and Cointelegraph. More details on what next was shared in a Coinspeaker article. How does a delegator fit into the overall scheme of things? Check out this video. Open staking noobs will find these 101 tutorials helpful. CTO Rongjian Lan also did a community call to explain about it. For the latest development updates otherwise known as #pow thread, click here. Harmony’s EPoS is designed to be fair to all stakers. So make sure to optimise your staking rewards. $ONE Binance wallets were taken down briefly for a temporary maintenance activity. They now support the mainnet coin. Hope you had a chance to participate in the guess-effective-median-stake contest to win some cool $ONE prizes. Click here for the latest staking stats. $ONE was added to Binance Savings which offers a fixed rate of return on locked savings. A minor bug in the staking bug was removed. Binance and BitMax announced support for staking with BItMax crew also appearing for an AMA. IntelliShare crew sat down for an AMA with CoinNess this week.

And with that, we have to close for this week in the Parachuteverse! See you again with another update. Ciao!

Data from the top 20 fastest growing communities in crypto over the last month (X-POST /r/CryptoCurrency)

Hey everyone, for the past couple months I have been working on a project called Coinmunity. Coinmunity is an app that focuses on the growth of crypto communities, which in the market right now, has so much effect in driving price changes. Each day it tracks which coins have the combined highest % of growth in their Twitter and Reddit communities combined.

Today, Coinmunity has now been live for one month, so I thought I would share what patterns I have personally picked out, having worked on the data, and observing the rankings during development and while live.

What I have noticed is that you will see certain coins start to creep up higher and higher into the top 10 or 15 communities consistently before a price increase. The best example is TRX. You can see from this reddit post that I made 27 days ago, that /Tron had the top community while it was still at $.01 ( and it continues to consistently be in top 10 even now.) I think most of us can agree TRX has some big issues, but the point is that it’s very important to know which coins have the most eyes on them; because when people are watching a coin, they’ll usually buy it.

Here are the 20 coins with the most growth in their communities in the last 30 days:
#1 TRX - Price Change: +2664.018%, Total Social Change:+3904.851%
#2 VEN - Price Change: +709.507%, Total Social Change:+974.497%
#3 XVG - Price Change: +2005.76%, Total Social Change:+925.614%
#4 ADA - Price Change: +467.414%, Total Social Change:+714.406%
#5 FUN - Price Change: +366.608%, Total Social Change:+611.430%
#6 REQ - Price Change: +646.897%, Total Social Change:+607.782%
#7 BNB - Price Change: +546.153%, Total Social Change:+ 558.920%
#8 SUB - Price Change: +619.376%, Total Social Change:+501.659%
#9 XLM - Price Change: +249.216%, Total Social Change:+501.642%
#10 ARN - Price Change: +1020.204%, Total Social Change:+469.129%
#11 ENG - Price Change: +1162.809%, Total Social Change:+427.344%
#12 MANA - Price Change: +236.856%, Total Social Change:+393.404%
#13 XRP - Price Change: +812.067%, Total Social Change:+389.193%
#14 ETN - Price Change: +60.470%, Total Social Change:+366.755%
#15 QSP - Price Change: +518.553%, Total Social Change:+346.401%
#16 SALT - Price Change: +76.836%, Total Social Change:+331.701%
#17 AST Price Change: +561.384%, Total Social Change:+272.433%
#18 THC - Price Change: +711.952%, Total Social Change:+265.797%
#19 NULS - Price Change: +587.179%, Total Social Change:+234.036%
#20 QASH - Price Change: +104.2105%, Total Social Change:+208.4238%
*Total social change => reddit and twitter growth

It probably wouldn’t be the best decision to buy a coin based off just community growth, so Coinmunity pulls each coin’s full subreddit to make it easy to quickly research the coin and see if there is any upcoming big news.

Some upcoming features that we think will add value:

If you have an android, the app is currently in development, but I have made a mobile friendly web app that is available at https://coinmunity.co! I will announce on the Coinmunity twitter when it is completed.

As Coinmunity continues to grow, I will start to collect more and more data on social activity surrounding these coins, such as retweets, comments, upvotes, etc. One relationship that I am looking forward to explore is the amount of exchanges a coin is available on vs social growth vs price growth. I think there is a sweet-spot before a coin is widely enough available to experience huge price jumps, where it would be the best time to buy a coin. If this is something you guys are interested in please let me know and I will continue to post each month about further discoveries from the data!

Let’s talk about taxes.

A lot of people have been talking about taxes for this upcoming year and that like kind apparently doesn’t apply to crypto (anymore or potentially ever). In theory that’s fine, I get the usd cost of every trade and bam ez pz got my taxes all set and ready. Now let’s talk about reality.
First off every coin usually has two trading pairs at least on every exchange bitcoin and ether. Ether and bitcoin in turn have different prices on different exchanges. This effectively makes taxes impossible to do fairly in anyway whatsoever. Here’s a hypothetical. Say I bought 100 Trx earlier today at 325 sats on a binance trading pair. And now I just sold it for 430 Sats. This is potentially a taxable event so now I want to calculate the gains on this trade. Well I gained a total of 10500 sats which is 1.43 dollars based on gdaxes current price of 13625 per bitcoin. Beautiful - good don.... not even close. First how is this the fair price of my exchange if the transfer would take me 80 minutes to be able to convert to usd in which time the price will change. Also the transaction fees for stock trades are not calculated as capital gains so I would have to include those. But those are just the solvable problems, I could wait 80 minutes and record the hypothetical price of sale and minus the transaction fee. But there’s a few more unsolvable problems. One is there is currently on coin market cap 400 bitcoin markets, some for usd some for other alt coins, and these are the top 400 based on volume there is of course more. Well obviously I would only include trading pairs which use actual fiat currency. Still got a problem. As on Wex exchange whatever that is the price is 13382. On Gdax it is now 13621. On finex it’s 13515. On bithumb it’s 17681. And so on and so forth WHICH ONE DO I USE? is it the one I’ve used before, well great except I’ve used more than 1 before.
Then there’s the rub of eth trading pair. I can spend 43000 sats ive earned today to buy eth and cash out that way as I usually do because eth transfers faster. This of course means I guess I need to calculate it’s fair price based on eth trading pairs on other exchanges which is going to be different then each other and the bitcoin pairs. The transaction fees are also different. So is the transaction times.
Then there’s the IRS tax guidance sheet which states it only applies to “convertible virtual currency” and proceeds to define “convertible virtual currency” as “ currency that can be digitally traded and purchased for or exchanges into usd”. Which only fits the description of bitcoin, eth and bitcoin cash and litecoin for most Americans. I cannot exchange trx for usd. I can exchange it for bitcoin which I can then exchange for usd.
I’ve talked with an accountant who admitted he wasn’t very knowledgeable about it but he said based on those points, he wouldn’t account for any gain as realized until actual cashing to US dollars. I intend to go to another accountant I’ve heard who apparently knows this better and see what he says I should do but this covers only a few of the problems. What about derivatives like bitmex.

[Daily BAT Discussion] Putting Back the Table - July 11, 2018

July 11, 2018
Hey BAT table-flippers! Welcome to the Daily BAT Discussion!
Yesterday's Market Movements - Slightly Up
Yesterday was a negative day for the market, but a positive one for BAT. Bitcoin had a big $400 fall down to $6300s after failing to break out of its 2-month descending channel. Ethereum also took a hit, once again touching $430 twice within a couple weeks. BAT, however, gained on Bitcoin, moving from 3800s to 4000 satoshis by this morning ($0.26). While the rest of the market fell, we had a pleasantly green day actually gaining on the dollar. Note that most of this upward movement was induced on low volume, with a 24h volume of only 125 BTC on Binance. Again, buys seem to be coming in spurts, but such an increase in satoshi ratio at these levels suggests that sell pressure has massively decreased in the past few weeks.
Also, there's a local BAT meetup in San Francisco this Thursday (July 12, 2018)! Have a great Wednesday guys!

Data from the top 20 fastest growing communities in crypto over the last month

A Lesson on Press Releases

Dr. K's Crypto-Corner - A Lesson on Press Releases
Riot Blockchain (RIOT) came out with what looks an impressive press release:
• For the month of March 2018, Riot generated approximately 69 Bitcoins and 44 Bitcoin Cash • Approximately 3,500 Bitmain S9 miners deployed as of March 31, 2018 • Riot's mining expansion plans remain on track to have approximately 8,000 Bitmain S9 miners deployed by the end of May 2018 • When fully deployed, Riot expects its presently owned hashing power to be over 110 Petahash, which would rank the Company among the largest publicly listed cryptocurrency mining operations • Riot maintains ownership of approximately 12.9% of goNumerical Ltd (dba "Coinsquare") as of March 31, 2018. Coinsquare received a CAD $430 million valuation in its February 2018 financing • Approximately 13.5 million common shares outstanding
It is just about the only publicly traded company to focus entirely on cryptotechnology. But it seems focused in areas such as mining which are not low hanging fruit. Most of the inefficiencies have been bled out of mining. Plus it seems they are overpaying for much of their mining gear. Further, as far as getting involved with cryptocurrency exchanges, they are late to the party. Coinbase and other exchanges such as Binance have clear advantages.
One of their major investors, Barry Honig, who turned RIOT from a biotech into a blockchain company has a questionable track record in terms of getting involved with the wrong companies. And now it seems even he has sold most of his position in RIOT.
Riot Blockchain’s current portfolio: Coinsquare (12.9%) - normal cryptocurrency exchange TessPay(52%) - blockchain-based solutions for telecom companies Verady - accounting for blockchain-based assets Logical Brokerage (92.5%) - futures cryptocurrency exchange Kairos Global Tech and Bitmain - mining companies
None of these companies are particularly impressive. Until a proper publicly traded company becomes available with most of its assets focused on blockchain technology, it is generally better to avoid companies such as RIOT. One could also google to learn how to set up an account on one of the larger and safer cryptocurrency exchanges so one can buy specific blockchain-based companies that have shown impressive results and massive potential. But that is up to each investor in terms of how much time they are willing to commit to understanding the world of cryptocurrencies with all its huge risks and, up to now, even greater rewards.

[uncensored-r/BitcoinMarkets] Data from the top 20 fastest growing communities in crypto over the last month (X-Post /r/CryptoC...

The original post's content was as follows:

It probably wouldn’t be the best decision to buy a coin based off just community growth, so Coinmunity pulls each coin’s full subreddit to make it easy to quickly research the coin and see if there is any upcoming big news.

Some upcoming features that we think will add value:
  • Google trends
  • Marketcap and volume rankings
  • Track personal investments
